High School Recreation & Enrichment Centers (REC)
Recreation & Enrichment Centers (REC) are comprehensive after school programs developed for high school students. REC is a place where students can get homework help, explore hobbies and develop skills. REC includes a variety of interest based clubs, extramural team sports, special events and teen trips.
- Clubs
A variety of interest based activities held from school dismissal until 5:30 at each high school. Clubs vary based on student interest. See current brochure for offerings (Winter schedule coming soon!).
- Extramurals
Team sports that practice 1 day per week after school with games on Saturdays. The focus of extramurals is on participation and sportsmanship.
JUNIOR LEADER JOB TRAINING PROGRAM
Want to work with MSCR during the summer? Apply for this program! Successful applicants go through an extensive training program with MSCR, UW-Extension, Edgewood College, MATC and the UW. Upon successful completion of the training program, students are placed in a paid summer position within one of MSCR’s summer elementary programs. Applications are available at MSCR, as well as each high school’s guidance office beginning January 18, 2010. The deadline is February 5, 2010. HIGH SCHOOL KICKBALL LEAGUE • Summer Only
Grades: 9-12. Kickball isn't just for kids anymore! Join the hottest "new" team sport sweeping the nation! Games are organized and follow league rules, however the emphasis is on fun, not competition. This is a league for students entering grades 9-12 only! Teams are coed. Register your team, or join the player pool as an individual looking for a team. See summer program guide for information.
HIGH SCHOOL LEAGUES:
Eligibility:
- Open to students enrolled or residing in the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) during the current school year.
- Players must presently be enrolled in Grades 9 or 10 to play in the Intermediate Basketball League team, and in Grades 11 or 12 to play in the Metro Basketball League team.
- A player may not play on a Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) team if s/he is or has been a member of her high school team during the current season.
- There is a separate boys and girls division.
Team Organization:
- Players may register as individuals or as teams.
- Each player must fill out both sides of the player card. The card must be signed by a parent/guardian to be able to participate.
- Teams must have a minimum of 8 players, maximum of 12, to register as a team. Teams may choose to be coached by a volunteer (see #4.)
- For teams choosing to be coached by a volunteer, the coach must be at least 21, go through MSCR coaches training and be available to supervise practices and games.
- Team registration packets, are available at the Warner Park Community Recreation Center,1625 Northport Dr; MSCR, 3802 Regent St; or at MMSD High Schools Athletic Offices.
League Play:
- Practice will be held one night a week, after school.
- Games will be played on Saturdays at various high schools.
- There will be no games or practice held over winter or spring break.
Registration:
- Team registrations will be accepted on a first-come first served basis.
- Completed registration packets, including signed player registration forms, a signed team roster and all player fees, must be turned in to MSCR attention Kit Laibly, 3802 Regent Street. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. There is also an after hours drop box available.
Fees:
- Participation fee is $40 per player.
- Scholarships are available. For more information, call Kit at 204-4580.
- Make checks payable to MSCR.
Uniforms:
- MSCR will supply a t-shirt (volleyball) or jersey (basketball) for each player as part of the program fee.
- A court type shoe must be worn. No black soled shoes that mark floors are permitted. Playing in socks or barefoot will not be allowed, shoes must be worn.
